WPCCA Monthly Meeting Minutes – March 27, 2019

Family Heritage Potluck 3.27.19

  • 5th Ave and Summit St—five-story apartment building
    • Hoping that 20% of apartments will be below market-rate housing. The Housing Committee has more details on this building project.
  • Community Gardens:
    • Currently neighbors Donna Madlener, Tyler Bender, Laura Bidwa are heading up this committee.
    • Looking for new people to lead gardens:
      • 4th St Farms
      • Bird Sanctuary on N Fifth Street
      • Indianola-Euclid Community Garden
  • Weinland Park Festival planning
    • Needing volunteers
  • Rekindling the Communications Committee. Looking for neighbor volunteer with one or all of these qualities: WordPress experience, enjoys taking pictures, some website experience.
  • Changing the time of the WPCCA monthly meetings. Pastor Robey requested that the meeting time be changed to an evening other than Wednesday. Laura proposing that we change meeting to fourth Thursday of every month. Everyone seemed to be on board with the change.
    • Ask Schoenbaum about availability
    • Ask WPES about any scheduling conflicts
  • Tyler Bender is organizing a litter clean-up for this Saturday, March 30. Meet up at the shelter house, supplies provided, complimentary donuts and coffee. 9am-12pm. Possible storms forecasted; stay tuned for a change in date.
  • Jeff with Coffee Connections. Mission-focused, community-focused coffee shop. 100%of tips go to support community charities. They like to support local businesses and they are excited to be in the Gateway, right across from the theater. Gave out free drink cards.
  • Charity Romero Rose—A Good Start. Summer literacy program for children entering kindergarten. Free for Weinland Park, Linden, and University District residents. Run similar to a kindergarten classroom to prepare kids for school. June 1-July 19 8:30am-3:00pm. 10 lots still available. Contact Charity Romero
